Clothed in Courage by RJ Jackson
“In like manner also, that the women adorn themselves in modest apparel, with propriety and moderation, not with braided hair or gold or pearls or costly clothing.” 1Timothy 2:9 (NIV)
I grew up in a home where shopping for clothes meant getting up early Saturday morning to catch a Greyhound bus and traveling two states over. My mother owned her own retail business and we never shopped at the mall. We shopped wholesale and purchased directly from the manufacture. My sisters and I had the finest of designer clothes before they ever reached the store. My friend would say to me, wow, where did you get that from? I would respond, “My mommy gave it to me.”
However one day, I met the Master cloth designer. He changed the focus. It was no longer about what I was wearing, it was about what I was clothed in. It was not about my hair but about my heart. He gave me several new outfits that Paul urges every woman to have. In 1Timothy 2: 9 we learn that the clothes do not make the woman but the woman makes the clothes. Here Paul admonished me and every women who desire to live a life reflecting godliness to let the Master designer dress them in designer labels that Nordstrom could never carry – courage, respect, courteous, meekness, and well-mannered. Now when people observe what I am wearing I respond, “My Daddy gave it to me!”
You oh Lord are the Master designer. Clothe me in courage. Layer me in love. When others look at me, let them see a mirror of you. Amen
Until soon…. Keep Up Your Courage & Stay Blessed Indeed!
